Early degreasing and restore assessment

Hera are some early pictures of the 240z….not in bad shape for its age, but I have found more rust then I would have liked to (not in photos). This is a look at some areas under thethe car that I have started to hand scrub in preparation for repainting/repair.

New fuel rail & more more fittings

Here is the new installed a new Palnet fuel rail complete with mounting hardware! Also there I have installed new fuel line fittings (simplified from old setup)  to resolve some leaking issues that I had. The water lines are finally completely hooked up in these photos as well.

What was not photographed between this and the previous update: Heli-Coiled the intake manifold bolt holes. The originals were stripped as a result the intake and exhaust manifolds came on and off a few times during this process. I had re-tapped all the holes but there was not enough left on them to hold at the required torque specifications. Thankfully the heli-coil process went better then expected, and there have not been any issues from this process.

Vacuum lines & new fittings

Here we can see some of the new AN fittings & vacuum lines have been installed. Sadly finding new old stock parts are becoming more and more difficult.  This is how the water line ended up with AN fittings which was never a part of my original plans. The end result ended up working out very nicely and has not presented any issues.

Engine & New Wiring Harness

Here are some more views of the engine as well as the beginning of the re-installation of my newly refreshed wiring harness. As you can see, not much has changed with the engine in these hew short days minus a few new brackets that were installed.  One thing to note is the new fuse box that I utilized from another harness that I was able to fine, the original had its tabs broken off and was in pretty bad shape. The wiring harness was a project that I had been avoiding for some time. The original wires were in bad shape, so I basically made a new engine clip from the existing schematic. It was quite a process that took me a very long time to complete.

New Plugs, Intake, & Header

Some pictures of the intake, header, and new plugs installed. This would end up being a “test” fit as there would be issues with the threads on the head that would be discovered later. All over spray that is visible was also removed prior to the final install.

More ZXR Engine/Oil Pan repaint Pictures

More pictures of the engine after the repaint, the over spray on the head was removed at a later date. This was a tough job with the engine in the car but it came out pretty nice in the end.

280ZXR Engine Block repaint

The Engine was originally painted black after the rebuild and this included the head. This process was fairly difficult, and these are some of the photos of the work in progress especially with the engine still in the car.

New Fuel Lines

Here are some early pictures of the new fuel line being run with a new fuel pressure regulator. Note the lack of a wiring harness, as it was out and was in the early stages of restoration. You can also see the old header that would be later pulled and replaced.
